The Castle is situated in the heart of Kentish Town, North London. Previously a public house, the site has been developed to create 500m2 of office space at basement and ground floor levels, with an additional three storeys above ground providing almost 650 m2 of high quality residential space.
The development is effectively a new building as only the facades of the original were retained, the existing interiors being wholly replaced. The design team have had to negotiate the multiple challenges of refurbishing these facades, adding a sympathetic modern annex and basement that satisfied the many concerns of the local residents, and meeting the environmental criteria agreed with the local authority.
The new building is designed to produce 30% less CO2 than an equivalent development built to Building Regulations standards.
The project is due for completion in May 2018.
